Thanks to our wonderful customers, we have weathered what appears to have been the worst economic storm in our 35+ years of business. Nevertheless, while we sit comfortably patting ourselves on the back, we are faced with the reality that many others have not fared as well. Even in our happy little Naperville and surrounding area bubble, many, many people were hit hard during this recession and lost financial resources, jobs, even their homes. In 2009, DuPage PADS homeless shelter served 1,152 people, which included 119 families and 142 children. This is a staggering 49% increase of families since the previous year. Imagine your son, daughter, or grandchild not having so much as a pillow or a pair of pajamas, let alone a roof over his or her head? Seventy-five children under the age of five were housed in the shelters. We aren’t in a developing country, we aren’t even in the inner city… we are Naperville, Downers Grove, Lombard and so on.
